Storm Hits Northern Germany

Published: 2025-01-06

A powerful storm is sweeping across northern Germany, bringing severe weather to the North Sea coast and beyond.

The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued warnings of heavy storm gusts reaching up to 110 km/h, particularly in coastal areas of Niedersachsen and Bremen.

Ferry services to several East Frisian islands, including Wangerooge and Langeoog, have been disrupted, with cancellations reported.

Despite the strong winds, experts do not anticipate a storm surge due to the wind's southern direction.

The storm has also caused unusual phenomena, such as large numbers of starfish washing ashore on Sylt's beaches.

As the storm subsides by Tuesday night, colder weather with snow is expected in parts of Germany, especially in higher altitudes.
