Thousands Protest Against Martin Sellner in Marburg

Published: 2024-07-30

Thousands of people protested in Marburg against a planned reading by far-right activist Martin Sellner from his book "Remigration.

" The demonstration, organized by the city and a network against extremism, attracted between 2,500 and 3,000 participants.

Mayor Thomas Spies condemned Sellner's views, stating they pose a threat to democracy and community values.

Sellner, a former leader of Austria's Identitarian Movement, has faced backlash for his controversial ideas, which often call for the forced removal of foreign nationals.

The planned reading was to take place in a private location, limiting the city's ability to intervene.

The term "Remigration" has been labeled as the "Unword of the Year," highlighting its negative connotations in public discourse.
