Crime Drops in Niedersachsen, Violence Rises

Published: 2025-03-15

Niedersachsen's latest crime statistics reveal a mixed picture.

While overall crime dropped by 24,000 cases in 2024, violent crimes, including domestic violence, have risen.

Interior Minister Daniela Behrens emphasized that the state remains safe, with long-term crime rates declining since the 1990s.

However, domestic violence cases surged to over 32,000, prompting plans for stricter measures like electronic monitoring for offenders.

The partial legalization of cannabis contributed to the crime drop, but police remain cautious about its impact.

Despite concerns, Behrens reassured citizens that the risk of random violence remains low, and most cases are successfully solved.
