Heatwave Grips Southern Germany

Published: 2024-08-13

Southern Germany is bracing for a severe heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar up to 37 degrees Celsius, and the perceived heat reaching 40 degrees due to high humidity.

The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued warnings for regions including Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and parts of Hesse.

Monday and Tuesday are predicted to be the hottest days, with tropical nights where temperatures remain above 20 degrees Celsius.

The heatwave is accompanied by a risk of thunderstorms, particularly in the southern and mountainous areas.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and protect themselves from the sun.

The DWD also warns of potential severe weather, including heavy rain, hail, and strong winds, as the week progresses.
