Heatwave and Storms Sweep Across Germany

Published: 2024-07-21

Germany is experiencing a scorching weekend with temperatures soaring up to 34°C (93°F) in some regions.

The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of a significant heat stress, particularly in the southwest and central parts of the country.

However, this heatwave is accompanied by an increased risk of severe thunderstorms.

Starting Saturday afternoon, powerful storms are expected, especially in mountainous areas.

These slow-moving storm cells could cause localized flooding and basement inundations.

By Sunday, a slight weather shift is anticipated, with heavy showers and thunderstorms bringing cooler temperatures from the west.

The east and southeast will remain hot until Monday, making ice cream parlors and swimming pools popular destinations throughout the weekend.
