Germany Builds Advanced Naval Spy Ships

Germany has begun constructing the first of three advanced naval reconnaissance ships in Wolgast, aiming to bolster NATO's surveillance capabilities amid rising tensions in the Baltic Sea.

The new vessels, described as the most modern of their kind, will replace decades-old ships by 2029. Generalleutnant Andreas Hoppe emphasized the urgency of the project, citing increasing Russian aggression and hybrid warfare tactics.

The ships, equipped with cutting-edge sensors, are designed to act as the "eyes and ears" of the Bundeswehr, deterring potential threats.

The project, led by the Bremer Naval Vessels Lürssen Group, involves multiple shipyards across northern Germany.

Military leaders stress the importance of completing the project swiftly to address the escalating security challenges in the region.
